The Panthers apparently didn’t take kindly to being leapfrogged by the #16 state ranked Cedar Hill Longhorns. Going into Friday nights game the Panthers dropped to #22 in the state, according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

The first quarter was all Cedar Hill, at least offensively. The Longhorns closed out the quarter with a 12-6 lead over the Panthers. But, those in attendance could see that the Panthers weren’t going to go down easily. The first quarter saw Omar Sherman make a strong statement on the glass as he brought down 7 rebounds in the quarter.

With five seconds remaining, the Longhorns scored to go up 17-20. The final play of the half brought the Duncanville fans on their feet as Jerami Grace took the in bounds pass and drove the length of the floor, splitting two Longhorn defenders in the lane, and drove home a one-handed jam to bring the Panthers to within a point at 19-20.

Grace and Sherman led the Panthers in the third quarter with five points each as they took a 33-28 lead going into the final quarter as they outscored Cedar Hill 14-8 for the third period.

In the fourth quarter the Longhorns closed to within a bucket, but never could completely close the gap. At the 1:56 mark the Panthers held a 43-37 lead when Kealon Clayborne hit one from beyond the arc to bring it to 43-40. The Panthers held the Longhorns scoreless for the rest of the game, while putting in five more points of their own to take a 48-40 victory.

Sherman came away with 14 rebounds for the game to lead all players, and single-handedly out rebounded the entire Longhorn roster. Sherman also matched up with Grace by scoring 17 point each for the game.

Next up the Panthers will travel to Grand Prairie on Tuesday, before coming home to take on Mansfield next Friday. To wrap up district play the Panthers will travel to DeSoto, and then South Grand Prairie, before returning home to play Mansfield Timberview.
