The Panthers are getting ready for Coach Danny Henderson’s first playoff appearance as the Panther Head Coach.

Junior post Omar Sherman used this game as a break out game. Sherman has been banging the boards hard the past few games, but offensively took the lead this game as well. Along with 11 rebounds for the game, he also poured in 26 points to lead all scorers.

The first quarter saw Duncanville step out to a 5-point lead with Renard Green scoring 7 points in the quarter. Sherman even dropped one in from beyond the 3-point arc to give the Panthers a 15-10 lead. By half time the Panthers increased that lead and took a 31-20 lead into the locker room.  Sherman also pulled down 6 of his 11 rebounds in the second quarter.

The third quarter saw the Tigers close the lead by only a point as they outscored the Panthers 14-15 for the quarter. However, that offensive push didn’t last long as the Panthers went on a 9-2 run to take the score to 55-37 with just over four minutes remaining in the game. Continuing the offensive push, the Panthers increased the lead to 21-points by the time the game ended, giving the Panthers a 68-47 victory.

Along with Sherman’s game leading 26 points, Senior guard Renard Green had 17 points, and Senior Jerami Grace contributed 12 points.

For the Tigers, Zack Johnson led with 15 points, Micah Harding scored 13, and Remington Mitchell scored 11 points.

Coming up next for the Panthers is an away game with the district leading DeSoto Eagles, followed by second place South Grand Prairie in another away game, before closing out the regular season in a home game with fifth place Mansfield Timberview. According to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches weekly rankings, DeSoto comes in at #1 in the state, followed by #2 South Grand Prairie. Duncanville moved up one place to #21 in the state, followed by #22 Cedar Hill. South Grand Prairie will probably drop in the rankings with a 47-46 loss to Mansfield Timberview.
