Panthers Hold On To Defeat Mansfield Timberview 49-48

The Panthers led by as much as 6 points in the third quarter, and never trailed by more than 2 points at any point during the game.

Omar Sherman scored 7 points in the first quarter to lead the Panthers, while also pulling down 3 rebounds. The Panthers scored 13 points in the quarter, while the Wolves were able to score 11 off the scoring of Brandon Pye.

The closing of the second quarter saw Timberview take one of their two point leads, 25-23, as the Panthers managed to only score 10 points in the quarter. Freshman Matthew McQuaid scored 4 points coming off the bench.

In the third quarter regained the lead, 31-29, with 5:02 remaining in the period and pushed it out to a five point lead with a little very one minute remaining in the third. Timberview was able to close the score to 39-36 by the end of the quarter. Sherman, Devonte Bailey, and Alfred Peterson scored 4 points each in the quarter.

During the fourth each team battled back and forth,with neither team able to pull away. With 1:10 remaining in the game the score was tied 46-46 when Brian Hampton dropped a bomb from beyond the arc to give Duncanville a 49-46 lead. With 30 seconds left and Timberview able to close the score to 49-48, Ducanville called a time out with possession of the ball, but they were unable to inbound within five seconds and turned the ball over. Timberview missed their game winning attempt with 8.61 seconds remaining and knocked the ball out of bounds. But, Duncanville was unable to control the inbound pass and Timberview had one chance remaining with 4.86 seconds left. Duncanville was able to pull down the missed shot attempt and secured the win as the clock ran out.

Sherman led Duncanville scorers with 4 points in the fourth period and 16 points in the game. Sherman also was credited with 10 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 steal for the game. For Mansfield Timberview, Brandon Pye was the leading scorer with 21 points.

With the victory, the Panthers are tin third place in District 5-5A with an 8-4 district record, behind Cedar Hill (10-2) and South Grand Prairie (12-0). The Panthers host Mansfield Legacy (4-8) this Friday, and then travel to Cedar Hill on Tuesday, February 14 to close out the season.
