Panthers Drop Gophers 62-29

The first time the Panthers met the Grand Prairie Gophers Duncanville won 62-49. This time the Panthers stayed consistent and scored 62 again, but held the Gophers to only 29 points.

The first quarter was a low-scoring affair, with the Panthers leading 10-4 as the buzzer sounded. Duncanville post Omar Sherman was responsible for 8 of the points, and dominated the paint as he pulled down 3 rebounds and blocked 3 shots during the period. Sherman kept up the defensive pressure as he ended the game with 7 rebounds and 6 blocked shots.

In the second quarter, Duncanville stepped up the pace of their offensive game and scored 19 points in the quarter on the shooting of Jerami Grace and Renard Green. The Panthers closed out the half with a 29-10 lead. Defensively the Panthers held the Gophers scoreless until the 3:15 mark of the second quarter. The Gophers were able to add 6 more points before the half, and the Panthers took a 29-10 into the locker room.

dhs_gp_002The Panthers kept up the onslaught during the third quarter as they stretched the lead out to 30 points as the quarter ended, at 49-19, and the in the fourth the Panthers stretched the lead to 33 points by the final buzzer to take the 62-29 victory.

The Panthers’ Renard Green led all scorers with 15 points, followed by Omar Sherman with 12, and Jerami Grace with 11 points. For the Gophers Jourdan Tyous scored 9, with Jaylen Fails contributing 8, and Ahmad Stark had 7 points.

The newest state rankings have Duncanville moving up a spot at #21, as the Cedar Hill Longhorns dropped back behind the Panthers at #22.

Next up for the Panthers is a home game on Tuesday against Mansfield (4-6), and next Friday they travel to DeSoto (9-1) take on the #1 state-ranked Eagles.
