Panthers lose to the #2 State Ranked South Grand Prairie Warriors 44-36

Panther Coach Danny Henderson knew exactly what he was getting into when he came to DHS and District 7-5A. “I think the Big 12 might be an easier league to compete in than District 7-5A,” said Henderson in a pre-season interview.

In the past two games, the Panthers have faced the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the state, while in district 7-5A play. DeSoto is currently ranked #1, with South Grand Prairie at #2, Cedar Hill comes in at #18, and Duncanville now sits at #19. All four teams come from District 7-5A.

The Panthers battled strong in the first quarter, but the Warriors held a 1-point lead going into the second quarter. In the second and third SGP poured on the offense and played a tighter defense, holding the Panthers to single digits in both quarters and pulled away from DHS.

By halftime, the Warriors had stretched the lead to five points, but Duncanville fought back to within a point with 6:16 remaining in the third. But, with a foul on a good three-point shot SGP up by five with 3:50 remaining in the quarter and Duncanville never could close the gap.

Duncanville did dominate the glass, pulling down 10 more rebounds than the Warriors. The major force on the glass was Omar Sherman with 14 rebounds. Offensively, Renard Green led the Panthers with 11 points. Jerami Grace contributed 9 points, and Sherman had 6 in the losing effort.

For South Grand Prairie Mark Howell scored 17 points and Trey Hall scored 14 points.
