Athletic Director Cathy Self-Morgan presents Henderson with the game ball and congratulates him on his 700th career victory.

Tuesday’s district opener against Midlothian carried extra weight as Duncanville Head Coach Danny Henderson was going for career win 700 in his first season with the Panthers.

panthers_at_midlo_002Midlothian came out with a game plan of slowing the game down and counting on their outside shooting to keep them in the game and it worked. Halfway through the first period a total of eight points had been scored, with Midlothian holding a 3-5 lead at that time. At the end of the first, Duncanville had taken a 2-point lead.

In the second period Midlothian continued the slow pace and actually took a one point lead on a Romello Chapman field goal with 14 seconds remaining in the half.

Henderson must have given a great halftime speech and made adjustments on guarding Midlothian’s Cody Meyers who had knocked down 3-pointers to keep his team in the game.  Duncanville came out and scored 14 points in the quarter on the 3-point shooting of Renard Green and Jerami Grace.

This game also saw the return of Junior Post Omar Sherman from a knee injury earlier in the season. Sherman’s inside presence was felt as he pulled down 8 rebounds for the game.

The victory puts Duncanville at 16-2 on the season and 1-0 in district play. On Friday night Duncanville will travel to Cedar Hill to take on the Longhorns who lost to DeSoto on Tuesday 56-44.
