Panthers Defeat Mansfield Timberview Wolves 66-56

The Duncanville Panther Basketball team has had a rough past seven days.

They had to face the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the state in DeSoto and South Grand Prairie. Coming away with losses in both, the Panthers entered the game against Mansfield Timberview needing a win, and the Panthers did exactly that.

dhs_mt_002 The Panthers took control from the tip, making a 7-1 run that lasted halfway through the first period. By the time the first quarter ended, the Panthers had run out to a 17-6 lead.

The Wolves actually made it to double-digit scoring in the second period by scoring 10, but they couldn’t close the gap as Duncanville scored 14 to go into the half with a 31-16 lead.

Omar Sherman, Jerami Grace and D.J. Wallace led the way offensively in the first half, with Sherman pulling down 3 boards, adding a steal and a blocked shot to his first half defensive totals.

The third period saw Timberview close the gap by outscoring Duncanville 19-11 in the period, but Duncanville still held on to a 7-point lead going into the final period.

In the final period Timberview tried to foul their way back into the game by putting the Panthers on the line, but Duncanville responded by going 20-24 from the foul line in the final period.

Standouts for the Wolves were Alex Robinson and J.V. Long with 17 points each. But, Robinson and Matt Martin fouled out in the final period.

dhs_mt_001Matthew McQuaid and Jerami Grace were standouts for Duncanville in the final period. McQuaid scored 9 points in the period, and went 6-6 from the line, and Grace score 9 and went 7-10 from the charity stripe.

Leading the scoring for Duncanville was Grace with 17 points, Sherman with 14, and McQuaid with 12 points. Defensively the Panthers dominated the boards with 23 boards, but turned the ball over on steals 18 times for the game.

The Panther’s next two games are at home against Midlothian on Tuesday, and Cedar Hill next Friday, both with 7:30pm tip-offs.

Duncanville is 4-3 for the season in District 7-5A, behind Desoto (7-0), South Grand Prairie (6-1), and Cedar Hill (5-2).
