Pantherettes to Play Houston Cypress Falls on Friday

The Girls 5A Basketball State Tournament bracket is now down to the final four.

Joining the Pantherettes in Austin will be Houston Cypress Falls, Spring Dekaney, and San Antonio Reagan.

Duncanville (38-1) and Houston Cypress Falls (37-2) will play at the Frank Erwin Center, at 3:30PM on Friday, March 2 in the first 5A semi-final game. Spring Dekaney (39-1) and San Antonio Reagan (34-4) will play later that evening at 8:30PM.

In the most recent MaxPreps poll, the Pantherettes are ranked #1 in the nation, while Cypress Falls is ranked #15, Spring Dekaney is #21, and San Antonio Reagan is ranked #92.

The Pantherettes played the Lady Eagles of Cypress Falls on November 19, 2011 and the Pantherettes came away with a 58-47 victory. The only other common opponents this year between the two was DeSoto and Klein Collins. Duncanville defeated DeSoto 63-51 and Klein Collins 73-62. Cypress Falls played DeSoto and came away with a 76-55 win, while playing Klein Collins twice and winning both games (58-42 and 72-41).

Leading the Pantherettes will be seniors Empress Davenport and Morgan Bolton. Davenport, the University of Texas signee, averages 14.2 ppg, 5.1 rebounds, and 2 steals. University of Arkansas Little Rock signee Bolton averages 12.3 ppg, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.3 steals. Rounding out the starting five for Duncanville is junior Kiara Perry (11.1 ppg, 8.0 rebounds, 3 steals), sophomore Ariel Atkins (9.8 ppg, 7.1 rebounds, 3.3 steals), and sophomore Tasia Foman (12.6 ppg, 2.9 rebounds, 4 steals).

The leading scorer on the Lady Eagles is University of North Texas signee, senior guard Loryn Goodwin (#32), averaging 18.8 ppg, with 7.4 rebounds and 5.2 steals.
