Pantherettes to Face Killeen in Bi-District Action

The Pantherettes will face the Killeen Lady Kangaroos on Monday night at 7PM at West High School in 5A Bi-District action.

The Lady Kangaroos come in with a 17-13 season record, while the Pantherettes are undefeated at 35-0 for the season and have not lost a game since the beginning of last season to extend their winning streak to 63 consecutive victories. Middleton, Idaho holds the nation’s current girl’s basketball longest winning streak at 72 games.

Killeen finished fourth in District 8-5A behind Killeen Ellison, Copperas Cove, and Temple.

The Lady Kangaroos are led by 6’1” Senior post Jasmine Goodwine, averaging 19.5 points a game. Goodwine has already signed a national letter of intent with Rice University.

If Duncanville gets past Killeen, they will be facing the winner of the Hurst Bell and Denton Ryan Bi-District game.

Three players lead the Duncanville: Junior Ariel Atkins at 17 ppg, Senior Kiara Perry 14.5 ppg, and Junior Tasia Foman with 11.2 ppg. Defensively Atkins averaging 5.9 rebounds per game, and 4.6 assists per game. Perry is averaging 6.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game, and Foman has 2.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.

Offensively, as a team, Duncanville is averaging 64.5 points per game, while only allowing 31.8 points per game.

This year’s undefeated march to the 2013 state championship is not unprecedented. In recent history, the 1997 Pantherettes went 40-0 to win the state championship, and the 1990 team went 37-0 on the way to the championship that year.
