Pantherettes Perfect Going Into Second Half of District 7-6A Regular Season

Running off four straight victories since their third place finish at the Sandra Meadows Classic, the Duncanville Pantherettes have cemented themselves firmly in the lead in district 7-6A, and as the number one team in the Texas 6A.

The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) lists the Pantherettes as the #1 team in 6A, a place they have been since the preseason polls this year. Also in the top 10 from district 7-6A is DeSoto (#7), and Cedar Hill (#8). This is despite DeSoto’s 10-6 season record, a 2-3 district record and their current three game losing streak.

In fact, Duncanville has defeated six teams in the TABC’s top 25: Clear Springs (61-41), Euless Trinity (54-47), DeSoto (52-43), Cedar Hill (64-45), Cy-Ranch (62-47), and Plano (66-40).

Duncanville 64 – Cedar Hill 45

Led by junior guard Zarielle Green’s 22 points, the Pantherettes defeated the Lady Longhorns at home on January 3.

Also scoring in double-digits was senior forward Lauryn Bowie with 18 points and junior guard Aniya Thomas with 13 points.

Cedar Hill was led by Dajinae McCarty with 12 points, Taylor Hutchins with 11 points, and Riaja Todd with 10 points.

Duncanville 92 – Irving Nimitz 15

In a home game on Jan. 6, Duncanville downed Irving Nimitz 92-15.

Green once again led the Pantherettes, this time with 34 points, followed by freshman post Hanna Gusters with 15 points, Bowie with 12 points and Thomas with 10 points.

Nimitz only had four players score: Ashley Lee with 6 points, Leah Crowe with points, Britney Gonzales scored 3 points, and Shabaria Walter scored 2 points.

Duncanville 67 – South Grand Prairie 46

Duncanville traveled to South Grand Prairie on Jan. 10 to take on the Lady Warriors and came home with a 67-46 victory.

Five Pantherettes scored double-digits to lead Duncanville to victory. Thomas with 17 points, Bowie scored 15, Green had 12, senior guard Nina Alvarez scored 10, and Gusters had 10 points in the game.

SGP was led by Kayla Wells with 19 points and Amber Bacon with 12 points.

Duncanville 52 – DeSoto 43

The Pantherettes hosted the Lady Eagles on Jan. 13 and claimed the 52-43 victory.

The 9-point victory is rather deceiving, as Duncanville led 46-28 after three quarters, with DeSoto outscoring Duncanville 15-6 in the final period as Duncanville cruised to the victory.

Green led the way for the Pantherettes with 12 points, Thomas scored 10 points, and junior forward Starr Jacobs scored 10 points.

DeSoto’s Chania Wright was the only Lady Eagle in double-digits with 13 points.

Duncanville sits atop district 7-6A with a perfect 7-0 district record and a 25-2 season record.

Duncanville will take on Irving MacArthur tonight in an away game, before hosting the Grand Prairie Lady Gophers on Friday night. The Pantherettes defeat Mac 90-41 and GP 91-1 earlier this season. Currently the Pantherettes hold an impressive +943 point differential over opponents this season.
