The Pantherettes rolled through another round of the classic by defeating Kennedale 77-39, setting up to meet St. Thomas More from Lafayette, LA. Currently MaxPreps has St. Thomas More ranked #3 in Louisiana and they finished as Louisiana 5A champions last year.
In what has become a recurring theme with the Pantherettes, the defense played by this team continues to confound their opponents.
In the first period the Pantherettes combined for 5 steals and 4 blocked shots, while pulling down 5 defensive rebounds. Duncanville scoring was lead by Tasia Foman’s 6 points as the Pantherettes totaled 17 points in the first, while holding the Lady Kats to 7 points. Kennedale standout Jamaika Hughes was held to only 2 points for the quarter, and 5 points for the half. At the end of the first Duncanville led 13-8.
The second quarter saw the Pantherettes pressure the ball even more, creating 7 steals, with Morgan Bolton, Empress Davenport, and Foman getting 2 each. Kiara Perry scored 6 in the quarter to lead the Pantherettes and Duncanville took a 36-12 lead at the half.
In the third Duncanville began opening the offense up on the scoring of Davenport and Foman, who scored 6 points each, with three other Pantherettes scoring 4 each to extend their lead to 61-22 after three quarters. Duncanville totaled 6 steals again in the third, with 10 rebounds.
With a commanding lead once again Coach Cathy Self-Morgan was able to play the bench the majority of the fourth quarter. Foman continued her offensive assault by scoring 7 points in the quarter to lead all scorers with 24 points. The Pantherettes again totaled 6 steals in the quarter to give them 24 steals for the game.
Foman and Morgan Bolton combined for 13 steal, over half of the Pantherette total, while Kiara Perry totaled 3 blocked shots.
MaxPreps currently has the Pantherettes ranked #1 in the state and #5 in the nation.
