During the holidays, the Pantherettes won the Sandra Meadows Tournament, taking on in-state rivals as well as teams from Arkansas and California.

After winning back-to-back State Championships in 2016 and 2017, fans are hoping the Pantherettes will bring home a third State Championship in March.

The team is currently 26-and-1 and is ranked number one in the state and number two in the USAToday national poll.

“We’ve got the talent to win it,” said head coach Cathy Self-Morgan. “If Duncanville gets beaten, it’s because we beat ourselves.”

The Pantherettes have not lost a district game in a decade. But Coach Self-Morgan says the competition is tougher this year. DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Irving MacArthur and South Grand Prairie have all improved and have a solid group of returning players.

According to Coach Self-Morgan, there are five good teams fighting for four spots in the playoffs. She wants her Pantherettes in the mix.

“If we’ll settle down and relax and play with determination, we’ll be fine,” Self-Morgan said.

The Pantherettes play South Grand Prairie tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. at the Sandra Meadows Arena.
