The Pantherettes took the momentum from their undefeated season, and rolled over their bi-district opponent.. The Pantherettes boosted their season record to 36-0 with the 65-33 victory. Also remaining intact is their winning streak, now at 64 consecutive victories.

The Pantherettes took the opening tip and never looked back, running out to a 8-1 lead that took up half of the first period. Killeen’s Kaderrica Degrate hit a 3-pointer to bring the score back to 10-6, but the Pantherettes took charge and had a 16-8 lead with only seconds remaining on the 8 point quarter of Tasia Foman.

With time running out in the quarter, Esha Atkins hit a 3-pointer from beyond half court to bring the Lady Roos to within 5 points at 16-11.

The second quarter saw Arial Atkins take over the scoring efforts with 10 points in the quarter, as the Pantherettes scored 19 points while holding Killeen to only 9 points. Duncanville took a 35-20 lead into the locker room at the half.

The lead should have been 37-17, but Tia Harston hit another 3-pointer at the buzzer, this time from about 10 feet beyond the arc.

The only downside to the half was when Destiny Means went down hard while fighting for a rebound and gingerly walked off the court under her own power and did not return to the game.

In the second half, the Pantherettes showed the Lady Roos exactly why they are ranked #2 in the nation, and should be seriously considered for the top position.

The Pantherettes ran the floor effortlessly and the passes were crisp and exact. Defensively the Pantherettes out rebounded the Lady Roo’s 7-5 in the quarter, but it was the 5 steals, and the blocked shot that provided the defensive push to hold Killeen to only 5 points in the quarter. The Pantherettes took a 54-25 lead into the last period.

The fourth quarter saw Pantherette coach Cathy Self-Morgan give her bench players the bulk of the minutes, however Antoina Robinson managed to pull down 4 boards and block a shot with limited playing time.

For the game the Pantherettes were led by Kiara Perry and Tasia Foman, both with 15 points, followed by Ariel Atkins with 12 points.

The Lady Roos’ Jasmine Goodwin fell short of her 19.2 points per game average, only scoring 11 points in the game. Perry provided the majority of the defense on Goodwin, with help from Atkins, Robinson and Madison Townley.

The Pantherettes will face the winner of the Hurst Bell vs. Denton Ryan game that will be played on Tuesday evening. Game time and location is to be announced after the game on Tuesday.

In other district 7-5A action, Mansfield Timberview defeated Temple 57-40, while DeSoto plays Killeen Ellison and Cedar Hill plays Copperas Cove on Tuesday.
