On Thursday evening the Pantherettes, their families, and special guests, gathered to celebrate the 2011-2012 season, and the State 5-A Championship.

After a barbecue dinner, coaches Nicole Villarreal and Carla Denning introduced the Freshman Red team (23-5 season, 13-0 district) and the Freshman Blue team (14-0 season, 5-0 district). Then Villarreal introduced the Junior Varsity team (23-8 season, 11-3 season).  Each player and manager received a certificate recognizing their contribution to the team and those players that qualified received an Academic Achievement Award.

Coach Cathy Self-Morgan then began recognitions of the varsity team. The varsity was 40-1 for the season and undefeated (14-0) in district play. They were the 2011-2012 District 5-5A Champions, Bi-District Champions, Area Champions, Regional Champions, and State Champions.

The only loss was to Plano West, early in the season. “We underestimated Plano West. We may gone into a gym thinking we can beat a team, but we never underestimated a team again.”

One of the biggest accomplishments for the Pantherettes is their academic achievements. “All senior players and managers are in the top 10% of their class,” said Self-Morgan.
