Pantherettes’ Defense Strikes Again

The Pantherettes made the trip to Grand Prairie to take on the Lady Gophers on Tuesday evening, and the defense once again shut down the Lady Gopher offense coming away with a 78-10 victory.

The Pantherettes defense held their opponent scoreless until 1 minute left in the first quarter when Y’lessa Bush hit the first bucket for Lady Gophers. Scoring only 3 more free throws in the first half, the Lady Gophers scored only 5 points the entire half.

Meanwhile, the Pantherette offense ran unchecked scoring 41 points in the first half. Tasia Foman scored 11 points in the first half, along with 9 points from Empress Davenport and 7 points credited to Alisha Spearman. On the defensive side in the first half Foman had 4 steals and 2 rebounds, Ariel Atkins pulled down 2 rebounds, had 3 steals and 1 block and Spearman pulled in 2 rebounds and 3 steals.

In the third quarter, the defense clamped down even tighter and held the Lady Gophers scoreless. Foman added 8 points in the third, while Davenport and Morgan Bolton each poured in 7 more points.

The fourth quarter had Coach Cathy Self-Morgan utilizing her bench and they scored 6 more points to close the Pantherette scoring, while only allowing 5 more points to the Lady Gophers, all coming on free throws.

The leading scorers for Duncanville were Tasia Forman with 21, Empress Davenport with 18, and Morgan Bolton with 13. Tasia Foman was credited with 6 steals, while Atkins and Bolton had 5 each. In rebounding, Atkins pulled won 4 boards and Antiona Robinson had 3.

The Pantherettes next action will be during the Sandra Meadows Classic at Duncanville High School on December 27 -29. The Pantherettes will take on Naaman Forrest at 9AM on the December 27 in the arena. If they win that game, they will play at 7:30PM that evening against the winner of Mesquite High School and Trinity High School.
