Duncanville advances to Regional Semi-Finals

The Pantherettes are now 66-0 this season, and they are determined to get back to the State Tournament and defend their 5A State Championship.

The Pantherettes took another step forward in defeating the Cedar Hill Lady Longhorns 65-29 in the Regional quarterfinal game.

PD4_9202_resizeThe Pantherettes started strong, by taking the opening tip and a 3-pointer by Kiara Perry. Duncanville then went on to a 13-4 run to the midway point of the first quarter. The Pantherettes continued their offensive assault and ran the score to 18-7 before the end of the period. Tasia Foman led the Pantherettes with 8 points and Ariel Atkins with 4 points. Atkins led the high-pressure defense that is the hallmark of the Pantherettes with 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and a blocked shot.

The second quarter saw Tamara Washington come immediately hit a 3-pointer to start the period, and Duncanville went on to outscore Cedar Hill 15-10 in the quarter to take a 33-17 lead at halftime.

The Lady Longhorns started clawing their way back by outscoring the Pantherettes 7-3 to end the half. However, Duncanville still held a 16-point lead as both teams went in for the half.

Whatever Coach Self-Morgan said to the Pantherettes must have worked. They came out on fire again and went on a 12-0 run before Cedar Hill scored from the free throw line to make the score 47-18 with 2:21 remaining in the third. The Pantherettes closed out the period with a 49-23 lead.

The final period say the Pantherettes give their bench considerable playing time. The bright spot for the Pantherettes in the fourth was the scoring of Freshman Chrineisha Davis, as she put in 8 points in the quarter, pulled down 3 rebounds and recorded a steal.

The Pantherettes scoring leaders were Atkins and Foman with 17 points each, followed by Perry and Davis with eight points. Defensively the Pantherettes leader was Perry with 9 boards and a steal.

For Cedar Hill, Freshamn Joyner Holmes scored 17 points to lead the Lady Longhorns.

The Pantherettes will now face Arlington Bowie at 8PM at Fort Worth ISD’s Wilkerson-Grines Activity Center in the regional semifinals. The winner of that game will face the winner between Flowermound Marcus and Lubbock Coronado at 1PM on Saturday.

Coronado defeated Southlake Carroll in one of the quarterfinals, while Marcus downed Mansfield Timberview to reach the semifinal game.
