Three of the top 10 teams in Texas are playing in the semi-finals of the Sandra Meadows Classic

The Pantherettes continued their mission repeat as Sandra Meadows Classic Champions on Friday evening.

The Pantherettes took on the #2 ranked 3A Kennedale Lady Kats in the quarterfinals and left with a 74-32 victory.

ettes_kennedale_001The Lady Kats had made their way past Trinity (64-24), and The Woodlands (65-57) before coming up against the aggressive and persistent Duncanville defense.

Pantherette coach Cathy Self-Morgan got an opportunity to rest her starters by primarily using bench players most of the third and fourth periods.

Ariel Atkins led all scorers with 18 points, but she was followed closely by Kiara Perry with 17. Antoina Robinson scored 13 points to help the offensive effort. For Kennedale, McKinley Bostad scored 17 points.

Duncanville will take on Overton, TN in the semi-final game at 10:30AM on Saturday. Should they win that game they will face the winner of the Plano West and DeSoto game that is being played at 9:00AM on Saturday. The Championship game will be Saturday evening at 7PM at Sandra Meadows Arena.

The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches lists Duncanville #1, Plano West #3, and DeSoto #9 and all teams are in the semi-finals. The other team, Overton, TN is listed as #12 in the big school rankings in Tennessee.

Perhaps the game of the night and possibly the tournament, was the five overtime victory of Plano West over Clear Springs.

The score was tied at 64-64 at the end of regulation, and Plano West senior Allison Staley hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to force the second overtime and they had to hit a layup with seconds left force a third. The third overtime ended with a 91-91 tie, and the fourth ended with both teams at 94. Plano West finally able to score and hold in the fifth overtime to win the game 107-105.
