The Duncanville Pantherettes met up with a well-known foe in the Collin County Roundball Classic, the Lady Wolves of Plano West.

The only defeat of last year’s state championship team came at the hands of Plano West at this very tournament. A defeat that was the only blemish in 40-1 season, and the Pantherettes were determined not to let history repeat itself.

Duncanville started the tournament by facing McKinney Boyd and walked away with a 73-24 victory. Next, the Pantherettes defeated John Paul II 54-38, and then faced a tougher match with Lincoln, but came out ahead 63-55 to face Plano West in the finals.

The game against Lincoln saw the Pantherettes in the unusual position of being down at the half by a score of 31-29. But, the Pantherette defense turned up the heat and held Lincoln to only 8 points in the third, while scoring 18 on the offensive end. High scorers for the Pantherettes were Ariel Atkins with 16, Tasia Foman with 11, and Kiara Perry and Antiona Robinson with 10 points each.

In the finals against Plano West the first half was played very close, with the Duncanville leading 36-33 at the half, but in typical Pantherette fashion, the defense is what mattered in the second. Holding Plano West to only five points in the third, while scoring 14 themselves made the difference in the ballgame.

With six minutes remaining in the game the tournament MVP Kiara Perry put in bucket off a rebound and game the Pantherettes their largest lead at 56-41.

In the finals, Atkins, Foman and Perry all scored 15 points each, while Tamara Washington scored 7.

The Pantherettes take a 14-0 record into facing a traveling team from Australia on Tuesday at 6pm at home, followed by another home game against North Crowley on Friday at 6:30pm.

District 7-5A play starts on Tuesday, December 11 in an away game against South Grand Prairie at 7:30pm.
