Pantherettes Advance to Regional Quarterfinals 63-59 Over McKinney

McKinney tried everything they could to take down the Pantherettes, even tying the ballgame in the closing moments of the game. But Aniya Thomas was having none of it, breaking the tie with less than a minute to play and then stealing the ball to hit Zarielle Green for a breakaway layup. Thomas then sank two clutch free throws with only seconds left to give Duncanville the 63-59 victory.

Duncanville held a 30-22 lead at the half, but the Lady Lions clawed back to close the gap 43-39 going into the final quarter. The Panthers matched McKinney point-for-point in the fourth with both teams lighting up the scoreboard with 20 points each.

Green led all Duncanville scorers with 23 points, followed by Krislyn Marsh with 20 points and Hannah Gusters scored 14 points on the night. Thomas finished with only 6 points in the contest.

The Duncanville fans were disappointed with the officials calls all night long, with Gusters fouling out of the game with just over six minutes left in the game. McKinney took advantage of the 6’4” Sophomore being out of the lineup to go on an offensive run to tie the score.

The Lady Lions saw Quincy Noble score 29 points in the game and Kayla Moutry scoring 12 points.

Next up for the Pantherettes is the 29-8 Allen High School Lady Eagles in the region I regional quarterfinals on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Coppell High School.

The Lady Eagles are the 17th ranked team in 6A according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Allen defeated Irving MacArthur 64-58 on Tuesday night to advance.

Also dropping out of the playoffs from 7-6A is DeSoto who fell to Plano 62-61 in double overtime. Plano will play Cedar Hill in the regional quarterfinals at Mesquite Poteet.
