Pantherettes Advance to Regional Quarterfinal by Downing the Lady Raiders 66-29

When the Lady Raiders of Hurst L.D. Bell took the court to take on the Duncanville Pantherettes they didn’t realize they had signed up for a basketball defensive skills clinic, or possibly a track meet. But, that’s what happened on Friday night in the area finals.

The Pantherettes raced up and down the court from the opening tip and played strong defense all night long. Duncanville left the court after four quarters having pulled down 33 rebounds, took the ball away with 12 steals, and blocked 3 shots. On the offensive side they scored 66 points to beat the Lady Raiders 66-29.

The first quarter was all Duncanville and all Ariel Atkins. Atkins had 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 steals in the quarter as the Pantherettes raced out to a 20-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. The long Lady Raider bucket came on Sheridan Pilcher field goal.

Atkins still lead Duncanville in the s
econd quarter with 7 points, but saw three other players find the bottom of the twine to push Duncanville out to a 37-7 lead at the half.

In the second half, the Lady Raiders faired a little better, but both Atkins and Antoina Robinson saw limited action for the Pantherettes due to foul trouble. In fact, Atkins fouled out of the game in the fourth quarter with 3:14 remaining in the game.

The Lady Raiders scored 8 points in the third and 14 points in the fourth, but they couldn’t slow the Pantherettes down as Duncanville scored 29 total points in the second half.

Four Pantherettes hit double-digit scoring for the game. Atkins with 21, Kiara Perry with 12, Tamara Washington had 11 and Tasia Foman scored 10 points.

L.D. Bell’s Cierra Johnson score 12 points in the game, down from her 15.8 ppg season average.

The Pantherette’s advance to the regional quarterfinal where their opponent is very familiar to them, the Cedar Hill Lady Longhorns defeated Flower Mound on Friday evening to advance to play the Pantherettes in the next round.

The date and time for the game hasn’t been announced as of yet.
