The Duncanville Panthers and Pantherettes traveled to Pasadena to participate in the 10th McDonalds Texas Invitational High School Basketball Tournament.

The Invitational draws teams such as the preseason number one team in the nation from Flower Mound Marcus. They are the defending Texas 5-A state champion and they return most of their team from last year. Former state champions who will play this year include Duncanville, North Crowley, Desoto, Cypress Fairbanks and Mansfield Summit.

All games this year will be played at the ten locations in Pasadena and Deer Park. Game times and locations can be found on the tournament web site at www.texasinvitational.com.

The event is expected to draw between 40,000 and 45,000 fans over the three-day period with the final game on Saturday, being televised nationally on Fox College Sports channel. This telecast should reach over 70 million subscribers on the Fox channels.

Last year the Pantherettes finished first in the Division 1 Bracket, on their way to winning the 5A Girls 2012 State Championship.

Last year Panther head coach Danny Henderson was the coach of the Division 1 tournament winner, Flower Mound Marcus, and they took the 2012 5A Boys State Championship as well.

In Pool Play on Thursday, the Panthers defeated Houston Westlake 53-39 in their 3pm game, and won a close one at 7:30pm by defeating Austin Westlake 60-58.

The Pantherettes walked over La Porte in their noon game 72-17, and won their 6pm game 57-41 over The Woodlands.

The Panthers were seeded in the Boys Division 1 Gold Bracket against Converse Judson at noon on Friday. A win would pit them against the winner of Fort Bend Bush and North Crowley at 6pm, while a loss would have them playing the loser of that game, also at 6pm.

The Pantherettes have another pool play game at 1:30pm on Friday against Victoria East. Victoria East was defeated by The Woodlands 66-22, and then lost to La Porte by a score of 47-44.

Championship play for the girls will start on Saturday.
