72-61 Overtime Victory Moves Panthers Along in Playoffs

Duncanville defeated first-round opponent Coppell 72-61 on Tuesday night at Arlington High to advance in the 6A playoff race.

The win didn’t come easy as Duncanville had to weather a strong second quarter push by Coppell. Duncanville held a 10-6 lead after one, but Coppell responded by outscoring Duncanville 17-8 in the second to take a 23-18 lead at the half.

Duncanville came out strong in the third to tie the game 40-40 going into the final period of regulation play. Both teams battled back in forth, with Duncanville hitting some key shots to force overtime with a 54-54 score after four quarters of play.

In overtime it was all Duncanville as the Panthers took advantage of free throws and came away with a 72-61 win.

Duncanville’s Dexter Johnson led all scorers with 28 points, followed by Sedrick Madison with 14 points. Josh Fink led Coppell with 20 points, and Sam Marshall scored 13 points to round out double-digit scorers.

Duncanville (17-15) will next take on Justin Northwest (22-11) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Grapevine High School. Grapevine High is located at 3223 Mustang Drive, Grapevine.
