“It was a good start,” said Head Coach Karen Aston. “In particular, I thought that our starting group and our older players who have already had the experience of first game jitters played really well. If you look at their lines and their numbers they’re really good. Once substitutions started freely, and then in the second half, I think there were a lot of teaching moments for the youngsters that we can show them on film.”

Four Texas players joined Higgs in double digits. Senior Brooke McCarty scored 14 points, including two three-pointers, and senior Audrey-Ann Caron-Goudreau notched 10 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Alecia Sutton and junior Jordan Hosey each set new career-highs in points, scoring 13 and 11 points, respectively. Hosey also collected three assists and tied her career-high in rebounds with eight.

The Longhorns scored first with a basket by senior Ariel Atkins. Texas closed the half with a 3-pointer from Atkins with 0:04 on the clock, and headed to the locker room ahead 57-33. Higgs led the first half in points with 14.

A 15-1 run spanning 3:23 in the third quarter widened the Longhorns lead to 78-39.
