New Teacher Training

Duncanville ISD staff members are getting ready to challenge students starting on the very first day of school! This includes the dsitrict’s newest faculty members. New teachers spent the week of August 13 in training and getting acclimated to the district’s five Core Beliefs – purposeful engagement, quality teachers, collaboration and continuous improvement, valuing each individual, and schools impacting the community.

It was a full and busy week that inlcuded picking up district-issued laptops, training sessions on the latest Web 2.0 classroom resources and tools, classroom management training on Positive Behavior Intervention and Support systems, a heavy focus on analyzing subject TEKS (Texas Essential Knowldege and Sills) to prepare a year-long plan of lessons, and creating high-quality learning that integrates the core subjects of math, science, English language arts, reading, and social studies. The week ended with two concentrated days of training on Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.

Covey Habits are threaded into the district’s philosophy, extending beyond teachers to our students through Covey’s Leader in Me character program. This past staff development week is a true reflection of how the district constantly strives to achieve more, educating our students and advocating for their future.  To conclude training, new teachers will come together with the rest of Duncanville ISD staff for Convocation on Monday, August 20.
