Because of its commitment to developing the strengths and talents of its staff, Duncanville ISD didn’t have to go far to find the ideal candidate to lead the district’s Human Resources Department. Kathleen Brown has been with Duncanville ISD since 2004, when she joined the district as a reading and science teacher at Brandenburg Intermediate. She was selected as the campus Teacher of the Year in 2006, followed by recognition as the district’s 2006 Elementary Teacher of the Year.

Kathleen is a dedicated educational leader who has demonstrated her ability to effectively design organizational systems that encourage growth and collaboration. During her tenure at Duncanville ISD, she has served as Assistant Principal at Alexander Elementary, Principal at Central Elementary, and most recently Director of Professional Development for the past year.

As the district’s first Professional Development Director, Kathleen led the district through the process of establishing fundamental practices and frameworks that have strengthened district training and development while serving as a solid foundation for future growth. It was her work with so many different divisions and people that attracted her to the Director of Human Resources role. “Developing and retaining highly qualified staff members is so critical to ensuring that we [Duncanville ISD] truly fulfill all of the components of our Vision of the Learner,” says Brown. “This is an incredible opportunity for me to play a direct role in collaboratively designing a recruitment and induction system that aligns with our core beliefs.”

Kathleen earned her BA from Southern University in 1999 and her MEd from Texas A&M-Commerce in 2007.  She began her teaching career in Garland ISD, where she taught for five years before joining Duncanville ISD.
