gowenMillie Ruth McCormick Gowen was the daughter of James William and Flossie Mae McCormick. Millie was the youngest of 10 children. She was born on May 4th, 1953 in Athens Alabama. She was a 1971 Lee High School graduate, after graduating she continued her education by attending a local college in Alabama and graduated with her Teachers Degree.

Millie wanted to fallow her love for the lord Jesus Christ and decided to go to a bible college called Christ For The Nations in Dallas, Texas. Her senior year while attending CFNI is when she met the love of her life Calvin Dewayne Gowen. They dated for a year, shared their first kiss behind a school bus late one night after their date. The love grew deep and on August 16th 1980 they were married and soon after they graduated from CFNI with their ministry license to go out into the world and spread the gospel of the lord Jesus Christ to the world.

They joined a church in Duncanville, Texas called Crossroads Of Life Assembly Of God. 1 year later Millie became pregnant with a baby girl Courtney Ann Elizabeth Gowen and suffered a miscarriage on March 12th 1981. Millie was very sad at the loss of her first baby but was determined to continue her love for being a mother one day. In her second year of marriage she found out she was pregnant again but this time with a set of twins, Jonathan Avery Gowen and Christian Marie Gowen. Millie was elated to be a momma of two babies and 4 months later she had a miscarriage on June 21st 1982. Millie was devastated after the loss of the babies and one day after church a few ladies asked her if she would join a softball team with them. She was excited to be apart of something she enjoyed very much. One year later, late one afternoon she came home sick after softball practice and a few days later at her doctors appointment she found out she was pregnant again. She carried this baby girl for 7 months and gave birth to Stacey Nicole Gowen on April 29th 1983. She was finally a mother after so many heartaches. She was in love with being a momma and her desires for more children grew deeper. 4 years later she became pregnant again. She had hopes for a boy this time and unfortunately the baby was miscarried on September 26th 1987 his name was Sean Jacob Gowen.

She prayed daily that God give her a healthy baby boy and a year later she gave birth to a baby boy named Joshua Dewayne Gowen on July 27th 1988. She finally had the children she always wanted. Millie was very loved by family and friends through out many churches and ministries through out the state of Texas and beyond. Millie was a very loving, kind, spit fire, encouraging person to know and be around. She was a true woman of God who blessed everyone around her. She was also a very stubborn, hard headed woman with everything she did in life but at the end of the day love was always her core. She loved drinking Dr. Pepper and watching a Crimson Roll Tide football game and she would shout ROLL TIDE BABY!!

She lived a blessed life with her husband Calvin, Stacey and her husband Russell Rand, her son Joshua Gowen along with her grandbabies (Joshua’s son) Jayden Ryan Gowen age 7 and (Stacey & Russell son) Aaron Russell Rand age 6.

Calvin says “Honey I love you forever and always and that its been a wonderful 35 years of marriage and through all the struggles in life with your health you fought the fight and won in the end to be in heaven with God’s arms wrapped around you welcoming you. I will see you in Heaven one day in the future honey and until then I love you and I stand proud that I was your husband for 35 years my darling.”

Stacey says “Mom you taught me so many things in life, you have always stood by me no matter what crazy ideas I have had. I will remind your grandson on how awesome of a Nana you were to your grand-babies. Your body is no longer here but you live in my heart and in my cooking 24/7. I love you momma”

Joshua says “Mom, no matter what struggles I have faced in life, you have always been my rock that kept me stable through the tough times. You never rejected me and you were always there for me when I needed you. I will miss you so much but I know you are in a much better place now where there is no pain, no more suffering and no more tears. I love you mom”
