celebrate the grand opening of the Intermediate Care Unit.

Methodist Charlton Medical Center recently held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting for its new Intermediate Care Unit, adding a new level of comprehensive care for patients of the hospital. The nursing staff of the Intermediate Care Unit is specifically trained and educated to care for patients who require additional monitoring and closer observation than typically provided on a general medical/surgical inpatient unit. The Intermediate Care Unit staff provides care to patients with acute pulmonary, medical, surgical, and cardiac conditions, including open heart surgery patients who may not require the services of the Intensive Care Unit, but do require a higher level of care and observation. “We are very excited about the addition of the Intermediate Care Unit,” says Methodist Charlton Chief Nursing Officer Fran Laukaitis, RN, MHA. “This unit allows family members to spend more time with patients than in a traditional Intensive Care Unit, while still providing close patient observations and enhanced nursing care.”
