The men’s Patriot tennis team showed a strong performance against East Texas Baptist University this past Saturday at Kiest Tennis Center. The morning started off with a bang from the #3 doubles tandem of Ty McAllister and Austin Serrett, who won their first match playing together. McAllister and Serrett went up early on the Tigers 3rd line doubles and did not look back cruising to an 8-4 victory.

The Patriots’ number one doubles team of Phillip Allen and Bradley Hilliard fought off a slow start to their match to eventually pull out a decisive 8-5 victory. The turning point of the entire match for the Patriots came in the line two doubles win. The duo of Anthony Burch and Nathan Wilson found themselves in a deep hole late in the match. Down 5-7, love-40, facing three match points against the Tigers, Burch and Wilson fought off those three match points and took the match to a tiebreaker. The tiebreak went back-and-forth until the Patriots seized a two point advantage that they brought to the finish line and a 7-5 win in the tiebreaker. The Patriots brought the massive momentum shift into the singles matches as they won five out of the six possible singles matches. A determined Wilson shook off a slow start in his first set and won 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.

It was a great overall team win for this gritty men’s tennis team. The Patriots are in action again Saturday, February 16, in Kerrville as they take on Schreiner University.
