McAlpine Powers Patriots to Series Clinching Win

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Baseball Team improved to 36-16 on the year, with a 8-6 series clinching win over Creighton University (21-25) on Sunday afternoon in Omaha, Nebraska.

Junior Jake Johansen picked up the win, improving to 3-1 on the year, pitching three and a third innings, shutting out the Bluejays, allowing only one hit, walking none, and striking out four.

The Patriots did not waste any time getting on the board, scoring one run in the top of the first inning. Junior Ronnie Mitchell tripled with one out and scored on a RBI groundout by Senior Joel Hutter, to give DBU a 1-0 lead.

DBU added another run in the fourth inning, after Senior Landon Anderson singled with two outs and scored on a RBI double by Senior Ryan Behmanesh, increasing the lead to 2-0.

Creighton chased Elkins in the bottom of the fifth inning, when the first six Bluejays of the inning reached base on three singles, two doubles, and a walk, taking a 5-2 lead.

The Patriots responded with two runs in the top of the sixth, after Junior Austin Elkins tripled to start the inning and scored on a RBI groundout by Mitchell.  Hutter reached on a two out error, moved to second when Anderson drew a walk and scored on a RBI double by Behmanesh, leaving the score 5-4.

The Bluejays increased their lead to 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth, by adding one run off of Junior Michael Smith, on a hit by pitch and a RBI single.

DBU rallied in the eighth inning to retake the lead.  Junior Boomer Collins walked and scored on a RBI double by Hutter and Behmanesh drew a walk to setup a three-run homerun off the bat of Junior Duncan McAlpine, his seventh of the season, giving the Patriots the 8-6 lead, which would prove to be the final.

The Patriots are back in action on Tuesday evening when they host Oklahoma State University at 4:00 pm at Patriot Field for the final home game of the 2012 season, and the final game ever at Patriot Field in its current state.
