Senior Taylor Massey (3-1) headed to the mound Sunday afternoon in Game 2 of the series against Houston Baptist looking to extend the fantastic pitching the Patriots (8-6) saw in Game 1 from Cy Sneed. He, and Jordan Staples, moved DBU’s scoreless inning streak to 16 but did not get a chance to push it further than that as the Patriots put up a seven inning run-rule against the Huskies, 12-0.

Houston Baptist (4-9) picked up five hits on the afternoon but could not plate a run as Massey pitched around three walks by striking out six. Jordan Staples came on with nobodyu out and a runner on in the seventh and promptly induced a 6-4-3 double play before getting a flyout to end the inning.

DBU broke the game open in the fifth and sixth innings with three runs in each. They led 1-0 into the fifth when Boomer Collins and Austin Elkins hit back-to-back doubles to drive in two runs and a run, respectively. In the sixth, Nash Knightsingled home a run before Elkins struck again with a two-run double. Elkins finished the day 2 for 3 with four RBI.

Those runs would be more than enough for Massey and Staples as they cruised through seven innings, facing only eight batters over the minimum. Elkins, Landon Anderson, and Knight all finished the game with two hits as the Patriots racked up 11 on the game.

Game 3 of the series will be played Sunday afternoon with Stuart Pudenz facing Ross Kennell.
