Mary Reaves Dees of Midlothian, TX, formerly of Edmond, OK, died on July 13, 2017. Mary was born to John and Mattie Nowlin Reaves November 12, 1927, in Blackwell, OK.

Mary was a life-long member of the Church of Christ. She was a Life Member of the Telephone Pioneers, Thunderbird Chapter 94, and retired from Western Electric with 25+ years of service. In her retirement years, she published eight books and traced her roots back to American Revolutionary War hero John Parker. Because of this relationship, she was granted membership in the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Mary was also a member of American Pen Women in Letters and a member-at-large in the Oklahoma Writers Federation, Inc.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Morris G. Dees; three sisters, Clarene Patrick, Nina Tidwell, and Winnie Weeks; & two great-granddaughters, Brooke Lee Coker and Rylee Paige Coker.

Mary is survived by a son, John Dees and his wife, Susan of Stillwater, OK; a daughter, Lana Canon and her husband, Adron of Midlothian, TX; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Dees and Melissa Dees of Edmond, OK, and Katie Canon Hulet and her husband, Joe Hulet of Midlothian; great-granddaughter, Kylea Payton Hulet of Midlothian; a great-granddaughter Hulet on the way; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends whom she adored.

She never lost her zest for living and will be missed.

In keeping with Mary’s request: “Please no funeral or memorial service for me. Instead I encourage you to spend the time with your family and friends and tell them often how much you love them. In the end, it’s not material things that matter; it is love and relationships with others. I’ve enjoyed a wonderful life – thank you and love to all who made it so.”
