dagenhartMary Catherine Duncan Dagenhart was born in Otter Creek, Wayne County, Missouri on September 14, 1922 to Eli Columbus and Jennie Evelyn Duncan and died April 28, 2016 in Dallas, Texas.

Mary graduated from high school at the age of 16, attended 2 years of college, and then taught school for a year in a one room school house before her marriage to Quentin S. Dagenhart on November 16, 1942. After World War II they moved to Little Rock, AR and eventually to Texarkana, AR. After her children were grown, Mary returned to school to complete her degree and then taught World History at Arkansas High in Texarkana until her retirement. Following the death of her husband in 1965, she moved to Duncanville, TX to be near her daughter and her family. She continued her community involvement in Duncanville delivering Meals on Wheels, tutoring literacy and teaching Sunday school at First United Methodist Church. Mary moved to Independent Living at Grace Presbyterian Village in 2004 where she lived until her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and son-in-law, Howard E. Harris.

She is survived by a son, Richard (Nancy) of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Linda D. Harris of Duncanville, TX; five grandchildren, Mark Harris of Dallas, Vicki Harris of Duncanville, Timothy Harris (Lorie) of Enid, OK, Jennifer Gaston ( Brian) of San Diego, CA and Catherine Dagenhart of Los Angeles, CA; sisters, Betty Orphan (Ben) of Villa Ridge, MO, Jane Russell (Ernest) of Oroville, CA; brother Tony Duncan (Shirley) of Green Valley, AZ.

The family wishes to thank the many employees of Grace Presbyterian Village for their love and care over the past 12 years.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Duncanville or Tri Cities Animal Shelter.

jaynesA Memorial Service will be held in the chapel at Grace Presbyterian Village, 550 E. Ann Arbor, Dallas, TX 75216 on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 3:00 PM, the Rev. Tom Tickner will officiate.

According to her wishes, her family will then take her ashes to Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cove, AR to be with her husband.
