Mansfield Leaves Town with 11-7 Victory

This game saw both teams combine for 7 pitchers, 19 hits, and 18 runs, before Mansfield was able to close it out with an 11-7 victory over the Duncanville Panthers varsity baseball team.

Duncanville starting pitcher Tony Dominguez lasted 1/3 of the first inning before being replaced by Garrett McBurnett. Dominguez struggled early and Mansfield scored one run in the first. Hunter Hargrove walked to lead off the game, and then stole second, advanced to third on a balk, and scored on wild pitch.

In the Duncanville half of the first, Gabriel Gonzales was hit by Mansfield pitcher Brody Ausfahl. Alan Becerra followed with long fly ball to the left field wall for a triple, scoring Gonzales. T.J. Giselbach hit a slow roller back to Ausfahl, who mishandled the ball, allowing Giselbach to safely reach first. On the next pitch, Giselbach broke for second, followed by Becerra breaking for home as the Mansfield catcher Bobby Kramer threw down to second base. The ball was cutoff and brought back home, but Kramer dropped the ball as Becerra scored to give DHS a 2-1 lead after one inning of play.

In the top of the second, Mansfield third baseman Clint Harris drew a walk, followed by Payton Cox who bunted and reach on an error by DHS second baseman Tyler Ogle, who misplayed the throw as he was covering first.  Harris advanced to third and Cox to second on the error. Harris scored on a wild pitch by McBurnett and Cox moved to third. Cox scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Hunter Hargrove. Conner Hall bunted safely to reach first, but was caught stealing on a throw from Panther catcher Zach Red, but Mansfield had taken a 3-2 lead.

In the top of the third with two outs, Josh Timms hit a single up the middle for Mansfield and designated hitter Lane Meyer homered over the left field wall for a 5-2 Mansfield lead.

The bottom of the third saw Duncanville battle back. Red drew a base on balls, followed by Kyle Miller hitting a single to left field and Christian Garcia singling between first and second to load the bases. Jamaine Parks was hit by the pitch to force in a run, Deonte Lusk walked to force in another run, and Gonzales was hit by the pitcher to force a third run in the inning to tie the ballgame 5-5.

The top of the fourth saw Mansfield score a run when Hargrove singled to left and stole second. Hall hit a single up the middle and Duncanville shortstop Gonzales tired to make a spinning throw to first, but the throw was wide and went into the Mansfield dugout to allow Hargrove to score and Mansfield took a 6-5 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Red hit a single between short and third. Miller was hit by the pitcher, and Garcia hit a bloop single into left field to load the bases. McBurnett drew a walk to force a run. Parks executed a suicide squeeze, but Red was tagged out at home. Lusk drew a base on balls to force in another run and give Duncanville a 7-6 lead.

Sam Hilliard led off the top of the fifth for Mansfield with a triple down the left field line. Josh Timms hit a grounder to left of the shortstop to score Hilliard. Meyer hit a single into left field, moving Timms to third. Harris hit to right center for a double to score Timms and Meyer. Cox bunted for a single and moved Harris to third. Austin Galvin hit a double to the center field wall scoring Harris and moved Cox to third and Mansfield had a 10-7 lead.

The top of the sixth saw Timms single to left and move to third on two sacrifice flies. Meyer drew a walk, and when he attempted to steal second, Red threw down and got Meyer trapped between first and second. Meyer was able to keep the run down going long enough for Timms to score and Mansfield had the 11-7 lead.

Mansfield scored their eleven runs on thirteen hits and committed one error. Duncanville had seven runs on six hits and had three errors.
