Having served as the City’s Library Director since 1984, Carla Bryan led the library through many stages in its rich history, culminating in her retirement on January 25, 2013.

Always a strong supporter of literacy and services to children, she worked hard early on to create a Youth Services Librarian position. Now the children’s area is the most active part of the library, offering year round programming for children and teenagers.

Ms. Bryan has also seen many technological changes in the library, from the move from the previous location at 103 Wheatland to the conversion to computer-automated systems and, more recently, the library’s entrance into the realm of social media and e-books.

Elaine Patrick, who retired last December from her position as Adult Services Librarian, remarked on the low staff turnover during Bryan’s tenure, attributing it to her positive and easy-going manner. “We would often go several years without any major personnel changes. She’s always been very well-loved by her staff and by the public.”

The City of Duncanville congratulates Ms. Bryan on her retirement and welcomes Mr. Dennnis Quinn as the new Library Director. Mr. Quinn can be reached at email: or 972-780-1297.
