Late Goal Gives Patriots 3-2 Loss

The Dallas Baptist Patriot Men’s Soccer Team dropped a thriller, Thursday, falling 3-2 to visiting Texas A&M International University. The DBU men (4-10-1, 1-6-1) will return to Patriot Field for their home finale, Saturday, hosting St. Mary’s University at 2:30 p.m.

Thursday’s contest was a true back-and-forth affair, with all the scores coming in the second half. David Balyeat opened the scoring in the 56th minute, flicking a header past Dustdevil goalkeeper, Jesus Cisneros, off a throw in from Christian Lampe.

The visitors countered close to 20 minutes later with a pair of goals within two minutes, scored by Joan Vallejo and Jovany Macias. The Dustdevils carried the lead into the final four minutes, before DBU’s Ryan Jackson knocked in a pass from Alex Becerra, tying the contest at two.

The winning goal came just two minutes later, in the 89th minute, as Robert Dominguez knocked in an unassisted goal, moving the Dustdevils to 9-4-3 overall, 5-1-2 in Heartland play with the win.

Chuck Schober (4-8-1) earned four saves in goal for DBU, allowing the three goals. Cisneros moves to 9-4-2 after earning three saves. Overall, the visitors outshot the Patriots, 19-9, with DBU putting five shots on goal, compared to eight for Texas A&M International.
