Lady Patriots Win Heartland Conference Soccer Championship

One shot from Hope Adams was all it took for the Lady Patriots to defeat St. Mary’s and secure their first-ever Heartland Conference Championship. Sixteen minutes into the game, Adams received a pass from Danielle Presley and made DBU history. One goal was all Kerry Edwards needed as she made seven saves to post her eighth shutout in the last nine games and the Lady Patriots ran their conference record to 9-1-0, good enough to cement their status as the top-seed in next week’s conference tournament to be held at Lady Patriot Field in Dallas.

“We set our goals high at the beginning of the season,” said Head Coach Michelle Lenard, “and we remained focused throughout the year in order to achieve those goals. The bar has been raised for DBU Soccer and we have no intention of looking back.”

With eight straight wins, the Lady Patriots are rolling at just the right time. By winning the regular season championship, they have earned the right to play the four-team conference tournament at their home field beginning Thursday, November 3. “We have achieved our first goal,” said Lenard. “We still have others to work toward. We are going to continue to work hard and our immediate goal and focus remains the same – to win our next game.”

Specifics for the Heartland Conference Soccer Tournament will be posted as they become available. Two games will be played Thursday and the winners will meet Saturday for the Heartland Conference Tournament Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Tournament.
