Lady Patriots Win First Game of Heartland Conference Tournament

It did not take long for the Lady Patriot Soccer Team to gain control of their opening round game of the Heartland Conference Tournament. Three minutes into the match, Lea Sedwick received a through ball from Danielle Presley at the top of the box, made a move, and DBU had a 1-0 lead over UT-Permian Basin. It was a lead that was never challenged, and the Lady Patriots are headed to the championship game of the tournament and are one win away from an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Kerry Edwards made three saves on the night to record her 12th shutout of the season as the Lady Patriot defense allowed only seven total shots and zero corner kicks on the night.

Presley notched her first of two goals on the evening in the 26th minute as she put a second chance shot past Alexis Frueh on a Kourtney Edwards assist. DBU added another goal in the first half on a corner kick by Baylie Hill to Lindsay Cox who made a one-touch pass to Stephanie Harrison for a 3-0 Lady Patriot lead. Presley added her second goal in the 49th minute after a Brittany Layne shot hit off the post and deflected to her for a basically open net goal. There was never much of a challenge on the night from the Falcons and DBU now prepares to face St. Edward’s in the tournament championship game on Saturday at 1:00 pm.

Presley led the offensive charge for the Lady Patriots as she scored her two goals on five shots, four of which were on goal, and assisted on another. Harrison scored her goal on two shots and three other Lady Patriots had shots on goal.
