Lady Patriots Win Fifth Straight

After several matches in a row that saw their offense carry them to victory, the Dallas Baptist Lady Patriots (6-3) used a different tactic on Friday afternoon in front of a large DBU crowd to defeat Arkansas Tech (7-4) in four sets… defense. Cameron Hartson led the way with 27 digs and three other Lady Patriots recorded double digits in the category: Erika Papadeas (12), Tyler Bradsher (11) and Tadam Mergener (10). Mergener, the reigning Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week, also put down 14 kills while Bradsher and Kaycie Bird picked up 17 and 18 assists, respectively.

The Lady Patriots only hit .174 as a team in the four set win (25-22, 25-16, 17-25, 25-23) but held the Golden Suns to .081 in the second game and .083 in the final frame. Kristin Secord and Markayla Benoit both chipped in on eight blocks at the net as part of the strong showing by the DBU front line. DBU did allow Arkansas Tech to attack at a .312 clip in the only set they won but forced 11 errors in the decisive Game 4 while only committing five.

The Lady Patriots will return to the court on Tuesday, September 18, as they travel to Cameron University for another non-conference set. They will return to Dallas on September 20 as part of a quick two-match homestand agaisnt Newman University and Arkansas-Fort Smith. The match against Cameron is set for a 7:00 pm start.
