DBUPatriots.com – The Lady Patriots went five sets against Texas Woman’s. TWU go out to a two set lead and were looking at a sweep until DBU found its rhythm. The Lady Patriots fell short but it was not because of lack of out or persistence. DBU fought hard behind a strong performance by Sophomore Lauren Nicks who recorded a match leading 28 digs. Sidnee Jo Fitzpatrickcontinued her stellar play by leading the team with 6 blocks and 13 kills. While Freshman Strealy Sizelove lead the team in assists once more with 28.
The Lady Patriots started the match by quickly jumping to a 12-7 lead. However, DBU’s defense hit a stalemate as TWU scored a barrage points by scoring nine straight points and pulling ahead 13-17. The Lady Patriots were never able to catch back up to Texas Woman’s and they fell in the first set 21-25.
The second set started much like the first, DBU got off to a fast 6-2 lead. Also similar to the first set, the Lady Patriots struggled midway in the match and gave up a 5-point and 4-point run to TWU. Texas Woman’s closed out the second set 19-25.
DBU planned to play a complete set during their third face-off and that is exactly what they did. The Lady Patriots got off to another great start by gaining a 6-3 early lead. The difference in this match was DBU did not let up on either side of the ball through the set and they enjoyed a 10-point lead at one point. DBU finished the set with a 25-18 victory.
With three consecutive points in the fourth set, the Lady Patriots held a 13-8 lead. TWU pulled back in the game with a 4-0 run to make the game a one-point game at 14-13 with DBU barely holding on. The teams battled back-and-forth but the Lady Patriots finished the set strong with a 25-22 win forcing a fifth set.
Texas Woman’s controlled the fifth set from the start with furious eight straight points that proved to be too devastating for the Lady Patriots. TWU won the set and match with a 6-15 score.

DBU has a quick turnaround as they look to get this tough loss out of their system. The Lady Patriots travel to Fort Smith, Arkansas on Thursday to face off against UA Fort Smith at 7 PM.
