Lady Patriots Suffer Four Straight Losses in 2011 Lady Blues Fall Classic

Dallas Baptist Lady Patriot Volleyball Team looked to bounce back after a tough loss to begin the 2011 Lady Blues Fall Classic to Southwest Baptist early on Friday, but were unable to get in a groove as they lose three strait to finish with a 0-4 record for the weekend.  After the conclusion of the tournament, DBU falls to 7-10 on the season.  Even though DBU was unable to record a win, Sophomore Krystal Wunderlich was selected to the All-Tournament Team as she connected on 33 kills throughout the weekend.

Set Two – WU 3 – DBU 0

On Friday afternoon the Lady Patriots were defeated by the nationally ranked Lady Blues from Washburn University, 3-0.
No. 5 Washburn was able to jump out early in the first set to force Dallas Baptist into an early 1-0 hole as they grabbed set one, 25-18.

Down one set to none, the Lady Patriots looked to rebound as they scored six straight points against the Lady Blues to bring the score in set two to 11-10.  Washburn stretched their lead quickly as they responded with an impressive offensive performance to win set two, 25-14.

The Lady Patriots were unable to recover in set three as they fell victim to the Lady Blues, 25-17, to lose 3-0.

Set Three – UNO 3 – DBU 2

The Lady Patriots opened Saturday morning with hopes of rebounding after a frustrating Friday, but were unable to succeed as they dropped their third straight, losing 3-2 to the University of Nebraska-Omaha Lady Mavericks.

After a set one loss (25-19), the Lady Patriots came out strong to win both set two (25-19) and set three (25-23), to take a 2-1 lead to set four.

Senior Claire Stephens led the Lady Patriots with 12 kills in the loss, with both Sophomore Krystal Wunderlich and SeniorKaylyn Frink recording 11 kills just behind Stephens.

With a lead, the Lady Patriots looked to hold on to their first win of the tournament, but UNO was able to steal set four to force a fifth and final set.

In the fifth set, DBU led throughout until the Lady Mavericks were able to tie the match, 13-13.  After a Lady Patriot Timeout, UNO succeed on three of the next four points to give DBU their third straight loss as they win set five, 16-14.

Set Four – ESU 3 – DBU 1

On Saturday afternoon the Lady Patriots were matched up against a high powered nationally ranked team in No. 25 Emporia State University.

Emporia State captured the first two sets before the Lady Patriots responded with 25-20 set three victory.

After an important block by DBU’s Senior Kristen Secord and Sophomore Tyler Bradsher which forced an ESU Timeout, the Lady Patriots broke away to win set three, 25-20.

Emporia State was able to take set four (27-25) from DBU as they put down three straight points to overcome a Lady Patriot lead as they  dealt DBU their fourth straight loss.

With the loss, the Lady Patriots finish the 2011 Lady Blues Fall Classic with a 0-4 record, which drops their season record to 7-10.

The Lady Patriots are back in action on Tuesday, October 4, as they travel to Commerce, Texas, to face Texas A&M – Commerce.  The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. CST.
