Lady Patriots Rebound to Sweep Panhandle

On the second night of back-to-back matches on the road, the Dallas Baptist Lady Patriots (17-8, 9-3) came out swinging against Oklahoma Panhandle State (4-24, 0-13) and easily swept the Aggies: 25-17, 25-9 and 25-10. The win moves the Lady Patriots a half-game in front of St. Edward’s for sole possession of second place in the conference with two matches left to play, the first of which does not occur until a week from now on November 8.

On the night, the Lady Patriot defense came up with 49 digs, 12 by Libero Cameron Hartson, compared to only 29 for OPSU. For the second night in a row, Kristin Secord led the offense with double-digit kills (11) while Markayla Benoit added eight in the quick match and Erika Papadeas chipped in seven. The Lady Patriots controlled the match from start to finish and doubled the Aggie service opportunities, 74 to 37.

DBU hit at an astounding .316 clip for the night, including a whopping .545 percentage in the second game. They held the Aggies to a negative percentage on the night (-.057) and forced 26 errors while committing only eight.

The Lady Patriots will take a week off from play before returning to the court against St. Mary’s in Dallas and finishing the regular season on November 10 against Texas A&M International. The Lady Patriots have all but sewn up a spot in the conference tournament after barely missing the event in 2011. That tournament will be played November 15 – 17 at the site of the conference regular season winner, a spot held at this time by Arkansas-Fort Smith, who is undefeated in Heartland play.
