After a cancellation of Monday’s round at the MSU Invitational due to rain, the Lady Patriots competed on Tuesday, for a one-round tournament at Weeks Park Golf Course in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Sophomore Mercedios Rios fired an even-par 72, to lead the Lady Patriots to a sixth place team finish with a total score of 316.  Rios’ 72 forced her in to a four-way, sudden death playoff for first place medalist honors.

Rios carded the only par on the first hole of sudden death, giving the sophomore standout from Euless, Texas, her first outright victory of the season, and her fourth top-five finish.

“I can’t say enough about the way Mercedes battled out there today on the course – it was fun to watch,” stated Head Golf Coach Kenny Trapp.

Also competing for the Lady Patriots was sophomore Chelsey Sills, who finished in a tie for 35th place after carding an eight-over par 72.  Freshman Erin Barrington finished in a tie for 39th with her nine-over par round of 81 and JuniorCourtney Burris fired an 83(+11) to finish in a tie for 55th, respectively.

The Lady Patriots will be back in action on March 26 as they compete at the Northwood University Invitational at Tangle Ridge Golf Course in Grand Prairie, TX.
