After posting a solid opening round 300 on Monday at Tierra Verde Golf Club, the Lady Patriots fired a day two low of 299 to capture their third first place victory of the season. Led by Junior Mercedes Rios, the Lady Patriots ousted the second place opponent by seven total shots after two rounds of competition.

“I am very, very proud of the way our girls competed on Monday and Tuesday.  Mercedes and the rest of the girls have been working very hard on their games and I am very glad that it paid off this week at our tournament,” shared Head Golf Coach Kenny Trapp.

Rios captured her third victory of the season (7th career) on Tuesday by sinking a 25 foot slider on the first hole of the sudden death playoff.  Rios fired an exceptional one-under par 71 on Tuesday, placing her in a two-way tie for first place with Anna Cortadel of Oklahoma Christian University.  Rios and Cortadel both placed their approach shots within 25 feet of the hole but it was Cortadel who would putt first.  After missing her birdie attempt, Rios stepped up and drained the similar putt to capture her individual medalist honor.  “What a great way to win. She (Rios) stepped up and drained the putt like it was a three-footer,” stated Trapp.

After opening with a five-over par 77, Freshman Sydney Williams bounced back with a stellar even par round of 72 on Tuesday.  Williams, who has recorded eight top-10 finishes this season, added yet another with a fifth place finish on Tuesday.  Also playing well for the Lady Patriots was Sophomore Erin Barrington who carded a six-over par 78 on Tuesday to finish in 11th place overall.

Coming off a fifth place finish last week, Freshman Macie Seeker concluded her Southwest Classic tournament efforts in 16th place with rounds of 76 and 78, respectively.  Freshman Abbey Bradley rounded out the Lady Patriots stellar round of 299 with her two round total of 157 (78-79) and a 24th place finish.
Also competing for the Lady Patriots was Courtney Burris (80-84), Abbey Bradley (84-82), and Chelsey Sills (85-85).

With the win, the Lady Patriots record their third victory of the season and their seventh top-three finish in just ten starts.

The Lady Patriots will be back in action April 22-23 for the 2013 Heartland Conference Championship at The Golf Club of Dallas in Dallas, Texas.
