The DBU Lady Patriot Soccer Team has made a habit of winning – and winning big. By upending conference foe UT-Permian Basin, 4-0, on Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Patriots have outscored their last four opponents, 16-0, and run their conference record to 6-1.
Danielle Presley tallied two first half goals, the first in the 14th minute as she played a Lea Sedwick pass with a hard strike past Alexis Frueh in the UPTB net. Her second goal of the game came nine minutes later as Brittany Layneplayed a cross from the left side and Presley worked a one-touch to give DBU an early 2-0 lead.
It was more of the same in the second half, although this time Presley did not score the third goal. Her cross from the right side in the 65th minute was controlled by Layne who half-volleyed her fourth goal of the season past Frueh.Kelsey Hall extended the DBU lead nine minutes later with a first touch goal from 15 yards out. This was her first goal of the year and gave DBU an insurmountable cushion.
The Patriot defense did their job and held the Falcons to just eight shots for the game. Kerry Edwards, the three-time Player of the Week in the Heartland Conference, made saves on all five shots on goal for the game.
“It was a good win for us,” said Head Coach Michelle Lenard. “We keep pace with the teams atop our conference and gain some confidence going into a non-conference game with Fort Hays. Our job now is to not get over-confident but to keep doing the things that have allowed us to have this great four game streak.”
The match with Fort Hays is Thursday in Dallas beginning at 2:00 pm.
