The Dallas Baptist Lady Patriot Volleyball Team improved their overall season record to 9-11 after defeating the Lady Rattlers from St. Mary’s University in straight sets on Saturday afternoon in The Burg Center on the campus of Dallas Baptist University. With the win, DBU moves to 4-3 in Heartland Conference play.
The Lady Patriots were able to capture set one (25-23) from St. Mary’s to set the tone for the rest of the match. The two teams were neck and neck throughout the entirety of the set before DBU was able to put down three straight points to end it and gain an important, 1-0, lead.
DBU continued to wear down the Lady Rattler’s back row in set two with strong attacks coming from Junior Christina Steinkruger and Sophomore Krystal Wunderlich who finished the match with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. The Lady Patriots cruised to a second set victory (25-17) to put St. Mary’s against the wall and force them to recover from a 2-0 deficit in the third set.
Dallas Baptist turned up the heat in set three (25-15) with stellar defense, led by Sophomore Cameron Hartson, to shut down any hopes of a comeback for the Lady Rattlers on the afternoon. Hartson recorded a game high 20 kills in the win.
The Lady Patriots are back in action on Tuesday, October 11 in the Burg center as they host Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. CST.
