The Lady Patriot Soccer Team was outlasted by the Lady Hilltoppers of St. Edward’s University in double overtime of Saturday’s match at Patriot Soccer Field, 3-4.

The Hilltoppers scored the game-winning goal in the 105th minute of play when Rachel Murray capitalized on an assist from Ally Lindquist.

The Patriots (5-4-1, 2-1 Heartland) knotted the match up at one goal apiece in the 43rd minute of regulation play as Lindsay Cox punched in a second chance, unassisted goal to give the Patriots the momentum.

The Patriots took the outright lead in the 79th minute of play as Lea Sedwick deposited a pass from Hope Adams into the back of the net, making the score 2-1.  Hope Adams provided the Lady Patriots a little more cushion as she blasted a 25 yard, unassisted shot past Claire Tilton, stretching the Patriot’s lead, 3-1.

St. Edwards bounced back with a goal in the 85th minute of play, cutting in to the Patriots lead, as Bethany Bennett provided an unassisted goal past Kerry Edwards, giving St. Edwards the late momentum with the score 2-3.

The Hilltoppers connected once again with the equalizer in the 89th minute of play as Ashley Villm slipped a low shot past Kerry Edwards, knotting up the score at three goals apiece.

The game was sent to overtime play as neither the Hilltoppers or Patriots were able to break the tie.

The first overtime period was a defensive battle as both goalkeepers, Kerry Edwards and Claire Tilton, kept shots out of their nets, stretching the game into double overtime.

Then, in the 105th minute of play, Rachel Murray connected on an assist from Ally Lindquist that sailed past Kerry Edwards, giving the Hilltoppers their seventh win of the season, improving to 2-0-1 in Heartland Conference Play.

The Patriots will be back in action on Thursday, October 6, as they take on the Dustdevils of Texas A&M International University at Patriot Soccer Field.  Game time set for 7:00 p.m.
