Senior Brandon Johnson fired a final round, even par 70 on Tuesday to claim victory at the DBU Invitational at The Golf Club of Dallas.

Johnson’s stellar three round, three under par total of 307 (70-67-70), slipped him in to a three-way tie for 1st place medalist honors.  After three sudden-death playoff holes, Johnson came out a winner for his first time as a Patriot.

“I can’t express how happy I am for Brandon and his performance this week,” stated Head Golf Coach Kenny Trapp.  “For a senior to capture his first victory at our home course like that, it was truely something special.”

As a team, the Patriots rounded out the tournament in 12th place after firing a final round 293, yielding their 872 total (293-286-293).  The Patriots fell just six strokes shy of a top-ten finish at their home golf course.

Freshman Luke Thacker also tacked on a solid round for the Patriots on Tuesday, with his final round, two-over par 72, good enough for a 43rd place finish (74-73-72).

Junior Austin Struble carded a closing round 75, ending his tournament with a 70th place finish.  Sophomores Charles Gibson and Freshman Jamie Youree closed out their tournaments with a three day total of 226, good enough for 73rd place.

The Patriots will be back in action on April 16, as they compete in the 2012 Heartland Conference Championship at Hardscrabble Country Club in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
