Johnson, Rios, and Barrington Named to All-Heartland Conference Teams

Senior Brandon Johnson, Sophomore Mercedes Rios, and Freshmen Erin Barrington were named as members to the All-Heartland Conferernce Golf Teams on Tuesday, reported Heartland Conference Sports Information Director Larry Northcutt.

Johnson, a Senior from Vernon, Texas, was named to the All-Heartland Conference First Team for the first time in his four years as a Patriot. Johnson recorded a stellar fall season scoring average of 72.00 and recorded his first-ever individual victory at the 2012 DBU Invitational this spring.

“I can’t say enough about Brandon and what he has meant to our program in his four years as a Patriot,” shared Head Coach Kenny Trapp.  His work ethic and attitude both on and off the course are what any coach could ever ask for.”

Rios was also named to the All-Heartland Conference First Team for the second consecutive year as a Lady Patriot.  Rios claimed the individual victory this spring at the Midwestern State University Invitational and recorded one addittional top-five finish at the Point Loma University Inviational. Rios recorded a team leading 76.70 scoring average in the fall with three top-five finishes, including a second place finish at the Bison Fall Classic and a third place finish at the NCCAA National Champsionship.

“Mercedes has displayed great perserverance and committment this year for her golf game,” stated Trapp.  I can’t wait for her next two years here at DBU as a Lady Patriot.”

Rounding out the Patriot honors is Freshmen Erin Barrington who snagged All-Heartland Conference Second Team recognition in her first year as a Lady Patriot.  Barrington recorded a 79.00 scoring average in the fall season and earned two top-five finishes this spring.

“Erin has played a huge role for our women’s program this year,” shared Trapp. “I am excited for what she is going to mean to this team in the years to come.”
