The Arthritis Foundation strives to help people live better while searching for a cure for arthritis, which affects more than 50 million Americans, or roughly one in five adults. Contrary to popular belief, arthritis is not an “old person’s” disease. In fact, two-thirds of people with arthritis are under the age of 65, including 300,000 children. In the DFW metro area, there are nearly 1 million adults and over 7,200 children who live with arthritis.

Angelina (4-years-old, Fort Worth) was diagnosed at 2-years-old with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and is the 2015 Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis – Fort Worth Child Honoree.

“JIA has incredibly impacted all our lives,” said Angelina’s mom, Brittany. “If we have learned anything since Angelina was diagnosed, it is that giving up is not an option!”

“Arthritis steals everyday joys and long-term dreams,” says Melissa Gower, development director of the Arthritis Foundation. “It isolates and ostracizes. It diminishes quality of life and fills days with having to say ‘no’ to too many things. It doesn’t have to be this way. The Arthritis Foundation is in a unique place of authority and action, with the purpose of finding a cure and fighting for everyday victories. We are a Champion of Yes, and so are all Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis participants.”

UNT Health Bone and Joint Institute is the local presenting sponsor of the 24th Annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis – Fort Worth. The event is also supported in part by regional sponsor Janssen and local sponsor Luke’s Locker.
