waltonJanice Gail Peterson Walton, age 78, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2016, in Dallas, TX. Janice was born in Humboldt, Iowa, February 28, 1938 to Christian parents, Arnold and Ruth Peterson.

Janice’s paternal grandfather was a Danish Baptist Church planter to families who had immigrated from Denmark to Iowa and Wisconsin in the early 1900’s. When she was six years old, Janice’s family moved to Cadott, Wisconsin where she grew up on a dairy farm. During her Senior year in High School, she met Jim Walton while visiting her uncle in Minnesota, who was the pastor of the church Jim attended. They dated long distance during their Senior year of High School.

After graduation, Janice attended Northwestern College, and based on her concurrence to go with him to the mission field, married Jim on July 6, 1957. They have two children, Diana and Daniel. Upon God Leading them to join Wycliffe Bible Translators, she, along with Jim and two small children left for Colombia, S.A., in 1964. Assigned to a small tribe in the Amazon, Janice helped her husband throughout the 18 plus years of putting the language into writing, preparation of a dictionary and other literacy materials, and the translation of the Muinane New Testament. During her final four years on the mission field, as wife of the Director of Wycliffe’s field work in Colombia, Janice interacted with many of Colombia’s top officers, educators, and Government officials, and their families; serving them elegantly as guests in her home and at her table.

When their work in Colombia was completed, Janice and Jim returned to the U.S. and served on the International Linguistic Center, Dallas, TX in several capacities. Janice is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter, Diana Suderman and her husband, Jim; son, Daniel Walton and his wife, Lisa; five grandchildren, James and (Sharon) Suderman, Nathan and (Karleigh) Suderman, David and (Mallory) Suderman, Mark Walton and Laura Walton; and her brother, Dean Peterson and his wife, Audrey.
